Three Peaks Challenge

A team from a West Leeds-based multi-service provider is taking on the Three Peaks Challenge in April to raise cash for children’s charity, The Candlelighters Trust.

The group from Servo, based on Gelderd Road, will be taking on the challenge on April 13. The fund-raising effort was originally scheduled for last year but had to be postponed due to extreme bad weather.

The Candlelighters Trust is a Leeds children’s cancer charity, which provides practical, financial and emotional support to children living with cancer in Yorkshire, and their families. Servo has chosen to specifically support this charity as it has close ties, with friends and family both having benefitted from the great work they do.

Joanne Crosthwaite from Servo said: “As regular charity fund-raisers, we wanted to come together to try and raise funds for this wonderful charity who do fantastic work for poorly and terminal children and their families. When last year’s attempt was postponed because of the weather, it was disappointing, so we are hoping to complete the challenge and smash our fundraising target this time and make our supporters and Candlelighters proud.”

Candlelighters help children with cancer, and their families, in a range of ways including providing toys and IT on hospital wards, providing playleaders and offering financial and emotional support to families at an incredibly difficult time.

The Yorkshire Three Peaks Challenge is a 25-mile trek, which includes a 5,200ft ascent of the craggy Pen-y-Ghen, Whernside and Ingleborough peaks and must be completed within 12 hours.

Several members of the Servo Team will be taking on the challenge together with other fundraisers and they are aiming to raise at least £1000 for the charity. The challenge is a part of a regular programme of fundraising for the company – as well as supporting Candlelighters, it has delivered selection boxes to children in Leeds hospitals at Christmas, Easter eggs to St Gemmas and Wheatfields and has worked very closely with the outreach teams helping the homeless over the past five years. It also supports grass roots sports by supporting several local children’s teams, including Wortley FC and Milford RLFC, through sponsorship and fundraising events.

The company, which provides reliable S.I.A licensed manned guarding, CCTV, vetted and screened rail labour and property management services serves high-profile clients such as Buckingham Group, Balfour Beatty and AMCO.
