A multi-service provider is boosting its eco-friendly efforts and targets after it was awarded a prestigious gold standard for sustainability.
Servo, which is headquartered in Leeds and has recently expanded its presence in London and the North-East, has been awarded a Gold Sustainability verification from Alcumus. The award, which complements the firm’s ISO 14001 accreditation for environmental standards demonstrates its ongoing commitment to meeting its eco-targets.
With the Government accelerating its goal to meet net-zero by 2050, two thirds of SMEs say they are prioritising sustainability over the next twelve months, according to recent research. The same report found that active sustainability initiatives are inextricably linked to growth, with 79% of growing businesses regularly renewing their ESG targets, compared to just 53% of those who were struggling.
Some of the multi-service providers’ ESG targets have included an aim to reduce landfill by 10% year-on-year, a commitment to plant trees for every new site it takes on around the UK, and eco-friendly innovation such as its solar-powered CCTV towers which, negate the use for petrol and reduce plastic use through lack of cabling.
Servo is working towards making its fleet of vehicles electric within the next two years, with the first three already converted over. It’s also exploring other sustainable ways of working, including recyclable PPE and other types of innovation that can be utilised by its security clients to make savings in terms of both cost, in view of the recent energy bills crisis, and sustainability.
Recent research also revealed that while six in ten customers expect businesses to do more to meet the Governments environmental targets, only half of UK businesses have taken steps towards net zero so far.
The Safe Contractor Gold verification, along with Servo’s ISO 14001 accreditation reinforces the commitment that has been made by the security specialist to meeting environmental and social value targets.
Servo is also continuing to strengthen its social value targets, through charity support, local sponsorship and the signing up to numerous crucial charters, including the Armed Forces Covenant and the Women’s Night Safety Charter. It works with local homelessness and food poverty charities, in Leeds, the North East and London as well as supporting grassroots sports including an ongoing sponsorship for thriving ice hockey team Leeds Junior Knights.
Servo’s Bid Manager, Laura Bacon said: “At Servo, we place a huge emphasis on social value and always strive to enhance the communities in which we are working, through CSR initiatives, priorities which are becoming increasingly important for our current and prospective clients. Our Social Value and Environment policies are embedded in everything we do, from offering staff volunteering hours to supporting apprenticeships and striving to recruit local staff and suppliers for every site we work at, so its fantastic to have our efforts recognised with further accreditation.”
Multi-service provider Servo thrived since its inception, just eight years ago, and it employs over 1200 operatives all around the UK, with more than 40 staff based at its current head office in Leeds. It works with some major national clients, including Network Rail, Buckingham Group and Kier Group.
In the past twelve months, it has opened two further regional offices, in Teeside and London to further capitalise on opportunities in these regions and it’s targeting a £20 million turnover in the next 12 months.
Its latest certification from Alcumus sits alongside a host of other accreditations including ISO 9001, 14001 and 45001, CHAS Premier and Constructionline Gold.
